This Dalyan, Turkey apartment accommodation offers easy access to Iztuzu Beach, famous as a protected breeding ground for endangered loggerhead sea turtles, and the Lycian tombs. The Gizaldi Apart Hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, a children’s pool, lounge chairs, and a poolside bar open during the day. In the evening you can come to the hotel restaurant for a good meal and conversation with the local residents. The restaurant specializes in dishes prepared with local ingredients from the southwest coast of Turkey, such as olive oil from Ayvalık and cheese from Ezine. The property is approx. 300 metres/330 yards from the centre of the town of Dalyan, in the Ortaca District. You can see the Lycian tombs, from circa 400 B.C., above the cliffs of the River Dalyan. In Turkish Dalyan means fishing weir; bass, mullet, and sea bream swim upstream in the River Dalyan past the town to Lake Koycegiz. On the other side of the river is Iztuzu Beach, often called Turtle Beach because it is a rare breeding ground for loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). By car you have to travel 57 km/35.4 miles around Lake Koycegiz and the River Dalyan to get there, but regular boat and minibus (dolmus) service connects Dalyan with Iztuzu Beach. Also on the opposite side of the river are the ruins of the ancient city of Kaunos. Dalyan is approx. 12 km/7.5 miles from Ortaca, 61.5 km/38.2 miles from Fethiye, and 82 km/51.0 miles from Marmaris. | |
