Book a room at the Hotell Hilda for your travel to the Smaland province of southern Sweden. You’ll enjoy a warm welcome and restful nights at this small Kalmar, Sweden hotel within walking distance of the city’s historic centre. The Hotell Hilda is in a charming 19th-century house with lovely fireplaces and bay windows. The hotel is so small that it is not staffed 24 hours a day, but the owners live just across the street and are always available to assist their guests. They also run a popular lunch spot next door called Kallkanken, which prepares cold buffet fare such as baguette sandwiches, pasta salads, and meat pies. Accommodations at the Hotell Hilda include breakfast, which can be eaten in the cosy dining room or outside in the garden in warm weather. This intimate hotel is located just west of the island that is Kalmar’s city centre. From the Hotell Hilda it’s a short walk of 1.2 km/0.7 mile to the 1660 Kalmar Cathedral (Domkyrkan), Larmtorget Square, and the Kalmar County Museum (Kalmar Lans Museum) in an old mill by the harbour. The museum shop carries many Christmas items inspired by the work of Swedish artist Jenny Nystrom, who was born in Kalmar. More good shopping can be found at the Baronen Mall (Baronen kopcentrum) not far from the main Kalmar train station (Kalmar Centralstation). Farther south and west, on the mainland, are the very modern Kalmar Art Museum (Kalmar Konstmuseum) and the Kalmar Castle (Kalmar Slott), a magnificent Renaissance castle that is open to the public. | |
