General Description | |
This hotel offers an intimate touch - the living room features large tufted sofas and oversize tables and lamps. Multilevel corridors lead to the excellent guest rooms, all of which have verandas. The rooms reveal a decorator's touch, especially the gilt-edged door panels, the grass-cloth walls, and the tile bathrooms containing shower-tub combinations with bronze fixtures. Breakfast room; bar; car rental; 24-hr. room service; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning This concrete hotel may not, in itself, be beautiful to behold, but the views onto Castelo Sao Jorge and the Rio Tejo are hands-down the best in the city. Rooms are both tasteful and cushy - a pleasant surprise considering the graceless, 1960s facade. This area is full of interesting sights, such as the Castle, the Cathedral and the famous tram 28, running right down our street. There is a flea market every Tuesday and Saturday just 5 minutes' walk away. Also, the areas of Alfama or Mouraria are within walking distance and it is a wonderful idea to go there and see the oldest part of town with its Moorish inheritance. By Car (from the airport): - At the airport roundabout, go towards the centre through Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho. - Go straight on and you will drive through Avenida Almirante Reis and Rua da Palma, till you reach Martim Moniz square. - At Rua da Palma, you should see the tram number 28's tracks. Follow them all the way up to Graca ( you should pass through Rua Andrade, Rua Angelina Vidal and Rua da Graca). - At Rua da Graca turn into the first right, where there is a sign saying 'Miradouro'. This is Rua da Senhora do Monte. - Come up the whole street till you reach a belvedere (Miradouro) and see the street going down. That is the Calcada do Monte. - We are there, right after the belvedere. | |
