General Description | |
For the discerning traveller, the five star Waipoua Lodge is nestled on a ridge overlooking the wilderness of the ancient Waipoua Forest where you will encounter a true Lord of the Forest – the magnificent 2000 year old Kauri tree Tane Mahuta. Finalist in the 2011 World Travel Awards, Waipoua Lodge offers luxurious accommodation in an historic setting with the guest lounge, library, dining room and bar all set within the carefully restored 1890 Kauri villa. The lodge is also home to many museum pieces depicting the history of the Kauri logging era. The four luxury and unique suites are set in the adjacent old farm buildings overlooking the garden and forest. Four acres of beautiful landscaped gardens surround the lodge and include an indigenous bush walk through which guests can wander or simply relax and enjoy the tranquil environment. The a la carte menu is prepared by the New Zealand hosts in a style that is traditional but with a distinct Waipoua Lodge flair, including the delights of organically lodge grown and other locally sourced fresh produce. A selection of fine New Zealand wines complete the fine dining experience. After a sumptuous breakfast explore the forest walks, visit endless white sandy beaches, swim in crystal clear lakes, or spend the day surfcasting into crashing Northland waves. After dinner discover the forest at night with the famous ‘Footprints Waipoua’ Twilight tour or visit the nocturnal Kiwi bird in its natural habitat. This is a remote forest wilderness location – an unforgettable experience. This description is based on information provided by the hotel. | |
