Squeezed in between the Hegge Fjord and Jotunheimen, Norway’s highest mountain range, in the Norwegian province of Valdres one can find the village of Heggenes. Here, at 500 meters altitude, surrounded by woods and water, is a magnificent estate, with right in the middle, as in a fairy tale, our sizable wooden home. It’s name? Herang Tunet! And Tunet means ‘farm garden’.
Our guesthouse is a typical traditional build for the Valdres province. Around it are some more ancient (uninhabited) buildings that the province has moved here in order to conserve its cultural heritage. We acquired Herang Tunet in 2003 and are now in a position to house 14 guests in three stylish themed rooms and in a fully furnished apartment. Shortly this offering will be expanded with two more rooms: a family suite in English style and a Icelandic room which also makes a great bridal suite.
In the course of this year the guesthouse will be expanded with a stylish restaurant with a cozy wood-burning stove. This restaurant will seat thirty people along big dining tables, which makes the hall perfect for celebrations and parties. In the end we will succeed in transforming Herang Tunet into a full service design hotel with an authentic atmosphere that anybody would love to have at home! The current three rooms and apartment on offer are examples of what is yet to come.
Our guests are housed in a fully furnished apartment with its proper entrance or in one of vife stylish themed rooms (Canada, France, Holland, Iceland and Sweden). We also have a stylish restaurant with a cozy wood-burning stove. Herang Tunet is an ideal starting point for holidays in Norway throughout the year. A 110 mile drive away from Oslo, the village is situated in one of Norway’s sunniest regions, close to a major lake, a ski resort (Beitostolen) and the Jotunheimen National Park. We are looking forward to receive you as our guests.
Staying overnight
Warm, cozy, authentic and highly comfortable. This description fits all of our two person bedrooms. Each of them has a luxurious bathroom. Wireless internet is available. We have made a considerable investment in dreamlike double beds and there is ample space for a toddler bed. The rooms have two more things in common: a view on the farm garden and an awesome silence at night. But that’s where the similarities stop. Our themed rooms are completely different! In decorating them we took inspiration from the atmospheres of many different countries. Will you choose a Canadian, French or Dutch touch on your stay in Norway?
French room
For ‘notre chambre Française’ we took inspiration from the times of Louis XVI. The room has royal decorations en is exceptionally lush and colourful. Pièce de résistance is the royal four-poster bed, magnificently covered with velvet plaid and countless pillows. In order to create the perfect boudoir, we have chosen authentic vintage wallpaper, a colourful crystal chandelier, a classic dressing-table with a stylish seat around the frail wood-burning stove. The bathroom has been equipped with real copper taps and has a beautiful wainscotting.
All on all this room is guaranteed to offer you a royal experience and long-lasting memories.

Canadian room As soon as you enter the Canadian room, you find yourself in a North-American log house. The room has been designed to offer warmth and comfort: fur pillows, plaids and reindeer hides just invite you to make yourself snug. Sitting in sturdy leather couches, you enjoy a hearting drink at the authentic wood-burning stove.
As a studio apartment the room offers a wooden kitchen unit with a cooker with two gas-burners, where you can have a culinary go. At the small dinner table you might enjoy the tasty fish that you just caught in the fjord. You can also use it to sit down and write a letter announcing that you’ll never return home again …

Dutch Room As the famous poem goes “Thinking about Holland.....” we found that we should not neglect our own heritage. The Dutch room is a tribute to the surroundings in which we have lived so many years: the area around Broek in Waterland in the province of North-Holland.
The typical wooden paneling of the traditional houses from this area, are represented on the walls of this room. The colour palette boasts authentic Dutch colours: Broeker grey, Hindelooper and old-Dutch blues with a hint of Delft blue. The modern very comfortable bed is covered with old Dutch bed linen. The walls are decorated with stylish black and with prints with typical Dutch scenery. Enjoy sitting cosily at the humming stove. The old-fashioned couches are just perfect for reading one of Mankell’s thrillers. Just when you are about to forget where you are, you can stand on the balcony and allow the Norwegian landscape to make its impression on you.

Icelandic Room Serene, pure and light are the best words to describe the Icelandic room. The room is furnished with natural elements, but also features modern luxury and comfort.
Here you can unwind completely, as you will be surrounded by the northern lights and can enjoy a view of the woods. Savour a warm bath and for a moment imagine yourself to be in Bláa Lónið.
In short: this room guarantees relaxation for the body as well as the mind.

Swedish Room Sweden has been described in many childhood fairytales and evokes a romantic image.
This room’s interior reflects the romantic, nostalgic feeling. A classic mantelpiece, an elegant heater/stove and the bed, stylishly covered with embroidered cotton, are just a few elements that endow this room with its own ambience. Let yourself be carried away to the time of King Gustav the Third.
The bathroom is accessible from both rooms and seamlessly matches the overall atmosphere. Upon entering the children’s room, you will instantly feel like you have walked straight into Villa Villekulla. A cosy, cool bunk bed, covered in brightly-coloured and checked, is every child’s dream come true. Of course the room would not be complete without a book by Astrid Lindgren!
