The Liguanea Club is situated on what was known as Knutsford Park which originally comprised some 35 acres. It is located in the heart of the New Kingston business area, with its high rise office blocks and opposite the hotels on Knutsford Boulevard; The Jamaica Pegasus, The Hilton Kingston and The Courtleigh Hotel. The Club however is actually situated in the Parish of St. Andrew as the City of Kingston boundary terminates at Torrington Bridge about a mile south.
The Club is a members’ sports and recreational club with eight tennis courts, six squash courts, a gym, swimming pool, badminton court, meeting rooms for lectures or bridge competitions, restaurant, members rooms and bar facilities, jogging and walking trail, and with a membership linkage to the Caymanas Golf Club, a short 30 minutes drive from Kingston and shortly, at the Club, a Golf Driving Range in addition to the recently constructed Putt & Play facility on the Club grounds.
The environmentally friendly and garden setting of the Club with its Terrace Restaurant is particularly pleasing, situated as it is in the commercial heart of New Kingston and is in conformity with world wide trends to establish and maintain “verdant areas” in cities for the pleasure and well-being of its citizens. The grounds and trees are a natural habitat and haven for birds and one can often see the elegant Egret strutting on the lawns, the Chicken Hawk which nest in the adjacent high rise buildings, at night the Patoo Owl, Humming Birds and the unique Jamaican Doctor Bird, Ground Doves, Banana Quits, Green Parakeets and many others. |
