General Description | |
“Il Rigo" which takes its name from a small stream which runs nearby, is located in the heart of the Orcia valley, between S. Quirico, Pienza and Bagno Vignoni. Surrounded by the softly rolling Sienese clay hills, the country inn looks out across a sea of cornfields, punctuated here and there by small woods, colourful patches of broom and the pale gulleys that are typical of this area. At present "Il Rigo" produces organically grown wheat, hay, pulses and broad beans on rotation. Casabianca is a stone building whose original structure and layout have been carefully preserved, despite the ravages of time, and indeed war. On one of the walls there is a coat of arms dated 1572 showing that the edifice once belonged to the Hospital of S. Maria della Scala. Casabianca has 9 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. All the rooms overlook the surrounding countryside and there's a fine courtyard with a woodfired oven. From here you can get to the dining room where dinner is served every evening, and to a welcoming "cantina" for wine tasting and snacks. Poggio Bacoca is a red brick building built during the 30's for the farmers' families who were working on the estate. It's in a panoramic position at the top of a hill facing Casabianca, which is located a short walking distance away. The house has some delightful bedrooms all with private bathroom and 2 sitting rooms. The name comes from the apricot trees that in the past were planted around the house.
