The village, celebrated for its white truffles, is part of a beautiful and unspoiled area called the Crete Senesi; just outside the village, the wonderful garden Bosco della Ragnaia, created by the american painter Sheppard Craige (free entrance). Following charming country roads, one can visit many interesting sights like the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore (8 km), Montalcino (famous all over the world for its Brunello wine), Pienza (the City of Pius II), San Quirico d'Orcia, Montepulciano, and Siena itself is only 35 km away. One-day trips can also enclose the towns of Arezzo (50 min.), Perugia, Assisi and Trasimeno Lake (1 hour), or Florence (1 12 hour). The area, rich in Thermal Springs, offers also the possibility of a romantic and pleasant hot bath or therapeutic treatments: Bagno Vignoni with its evocative Roman pool, Bagni San Filippo with its sulphurean springs and Rapolano Terme are only a few km away. The Antica Querciolaia Thermal Springs of Rapolano reserve to our clients special discounts on their treatments. The Restaurant of the Locanda is located on the ground floor in the oldest part of the building, which once housed an olive press. It offers its guests the genuine flavours of traditional Tuscan cooking. Amongst its delicious specialities are the local white and black truffles, pecorino cheese, Sienese salami, honey and saffron, served with Tuscan red wines. In the warmer weather, one can eat outside in the small piazzetta enjoying the atmosphere of the old village, or alternately in the comfort and shade of the back terrace. | |
