Torre don Virgilio (The don Virgilio Tower) was created in the sixteenth century as an observation tower along what was known as "The Wheat Trail" that wound its way through the countryside of Modica and along the southern coast of Sicily surrounded by the uncontaminated nature of the highlands of Ibleo, a setting tinted with the hues of the changing seasons, which offers a holiday in total relax.
Guests are pampered by the traditionally polite Sicilian hospitality and sample genuine and refined Mediterranean dishes accompanied by autocton wines which reveal the typical perfumes of this sunblessed territory whilst discovering the beauty of the baroque towns that have been declared "Heritage of Humanity". The building is a fortified residence, an enclosed structure protected by high walls of white stone with a magnificent entrance crowned by the noble emblem. The architectural complex, which faces onto a large internal courtyard called "the baglio", includes the main floor with the master's dwelling, the private chapel, the farm worker's houses, the stables, the granary, the old oil mill with the huge grindstones and the storehouses. The manor farm has recently been restored to its antique splendour respecting rigorously the original structure. It is now home to an elegant hotel complex offering different solutions for accommodation and exclusive services for ceremonies, weddings and meetings.
The delightful rooms with stone walls and beamed ceilings all have air conditioning, TV, fridge bar and a veranda with garden furniture. The suites provide the comfort of the bedroom supplemented by the luxury of a living room.
The restaurant is situated in the old granary, in rooms with stone walls, vaults and arches which create a warm and suggestive atmosphere offering the ideal setting in which to discover the flavours and aromas of quality cuisine based on a careful choice of high quality products, some of which are biologically cultivated on the own farm. Traditional recipes are adapted by the chef following modern, refined tendencies and these elegant dishes can be accompanied by a selection of the numerous, precious wines available in the wine cellar, especially rich in Sicilian labels.
