As well as the site of Battle of the Boyne (1690), there are the passage graves of Knowth, Dowth and Newgrange to be visited. Alternatively, it is an excellent place for a break when travelling to / from the airport (one hour) or the ferry ports of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire (90 minutes). There are frequent express buses to Dublin and Donegal. Also within easy reach (45 minutes) are good sandy beaches, if you fancy a day at the sea after all the historical tourism. There is also a racecourse at Navan and numerous golf courses within an easy drive, as well as Headfort Golf, Kells' own superb championship course.
