General Description | |
The Firs derives its name from some of the old and varied trees in the 4 acres of grounds, many of which predate the house. As well as trees there are numerous rhododendrons and azaleas with carpets of daffodils in the spring. Guests can stroll through the grounds taking advantage of the garden furniture to relax and watch pheasants, rabbits, squirrels and owls as well as many other smaller birds. The attractive bedrooms are traditionally furnished with their own comfortable seating areas. There are feather duvets, fluffy bathrobes and fresh flowers. Both are en-suite with luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding and wonderfully thick bath sheets and hand towels. TV, DVD and CD players are provided in each room as well as tea/coffe making facilities and hairdryer. Complimentary wireless internet access is available. Breakfast is served in the dining room. A full Scottish breakfast is available or a lighter continental version. Local produce is used as much as possible. A friendly welcome awaits guests with tea in the drawing room, log fires and a relaxing atmosphere. The surrounding area offers splendid touring in the unspoilt Borders countryside with a wealth of historic towns, battle sites and castles to visit. There are several golf courses within easy reach as is the Southern Upland Walkway. The cultural attractions of Edinburgh are just 40 miles away as are the beaches at Berwick and its nearby shoreline. | |
