Hillside Cottage lies in the heart of the historic village of Ireshopeburn. It is a cosy two hundred year old two bedroom terraced cottage overlooking the River Wear. The cottage is quite unusual in that it actually sits in the hill, hence the name. Outside is a small patio garden complete with garden furniture and bbq and is ideal for relaxing in after a day touring the area. The patio garden can be accessed from the first floor. Although sheltered the patio garden is not completely enclosed. Inside there are two bedrooms on the first floor. The main bedroom has a double bed and single bed. The smaller room has a single bed. A cot is also available. Downstairs there is a lounge/diner, galley kitchen and bathroom. In the bathroom there is bath with shower over. The kitchen has all modern conveniences including fridge/ freezer, microwave, washer/ dryer and, electric cooker. In the lounge/ diner there is a TV/DVD combi and an assortment of games centred arpounft eh wood-burning stove. Parking can be found on the pavement at the front of the property. This area is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Within easy reach are reminders of the areas industrial heritage at Kilhope Lead Mine and Beamish Museum, reminders of religious heritage at the local chapel, where John Wesley preached, and at nearby Durham Cathedral and natural heritage at Burnhope Moor and the Pennine Way. Within the hour you can also explore Northumbria, the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and Moors and the Tees Coast. Welcoming pubs are lcoated in Irsehopeburn itslef and the surrounding villages. The nearest shop is 1 mile away. For the more adventurous, bicycles are available at Stanhope Visitor Centre, The Rookhope Inn and at Nenthead. There are many local walks including the Pennine Way, and pony trekking can be found nearby. Whether you are looking for a touring base, a tranquil haven or just want to get away from it all at anytime of year Hillside Cottage is the place for you. | |
