The Old Ship Hotel is a well appointed hotel situated 500 yards off the A303 in the centre of the popular Wiltshire town of Mere, approximately 8 miles from Longleat and 3 miles from Stourhead. The Old Ship hotel was originally built as a mid 17th century house and reputedly converted into a coaching inn in 1785. It was once the private residence of Sir John Coventry M.P. (until 1682). It was his banishment from court which led to the saying 'Sent to Coventry'.
