The Town of Holyhead is a busy ferry port with a small shopping centre. There are several places to eat, numerous pubs some nightclubs and there is a cinema and a Sport Centre. Places of interest include the Ucheldre Centre which is a converted convent, featuring exhibitions and various entertainment. St Cybi Church surrounded by Roman wall. The grounds hold an excellent viewing point for the Stena HSS Voyager berthing. Within minutes of the town centre are some lovely places to visit such as South Stack Lighthouse and the surrounding area, offering stunning scenary with huge Cliffs and rugged coastline, it is a popular location for Bird watchers and Cliff climbers. The Lighthouse can be visited during season. Holyhead Country Breakwater Park is a peaceful location with a selection of walks, you may walk the 1.5 mile breakwater or climb Holyhead Mountain. It is possible to walk to South Stack via North Stack and this is hughly recommended on a fine day. Penrhos Country Park is a wooded area with some fine walks and a secluded beach. The area can boast some of the finest beaches in the UK. Holyhead Promenade is a pleasant walk and in summer a large flotilla of Yachts are moored in the Marina. Prthdafarch beach (2 miles away) is ideal for bathing and is sheltered. Treaddur Bay is very popular and busy in the summer, both beaches currently hold the prestigious blue flag award for European beaches. Rhoscolyn is also a lovely location with some nice beaches | |
