General Description | |
It is a well established English country inn with great food and rooms. Situated just off the A6, 5 miles south of Bedford, it is convenient for Luton Airport, the M1 Junctions 12/13 and both Flitwick and Bedford railway station. There are lots of things to do and see in the area - from Woburn Safari Park to walking the Greenslade way. Records put the pub at 1796 but it is thought to be older. Originally called the Butchers Arms and was owned as part of the manor house and the Conquest family who owned the Manor from the 13th Century, when it was named Conquestbury or Houghtonbury. We have a couple of resident ghosts, so if you feel a draught it might not be a window open... You will always find a warm welcome with a roaring log fire in winter and a wonderful garden, ideal to while away those long summer evenings (remember those?) If you are just looking for a real, traditional bar for a glass of real ales and a sandwich or a great place for a meal and a stop over we are sure the Knife and Cleaver is the place for you. | |
