General Description | |
Kirkstone is a tastefully converted chapel in the heart of Teesdale. With one ground floor double bedroom an en suite shower, toilet and sink, a conservatory to relax and have breakfast in. Outside there are lawned gardens and flower borders with seats for guests' use. Kirkstone overlooks the stang forest and Arkengarthdale and just 1 mile away is the small market town of Barnard Castle, known as Barney to locals. Barney has lots of interesting shops including several Antique shops. A short walk from the town centre is Bowes Museum, a very grand structure, which has very close ties to the late Queen Mother. About 8 miles from the town centre is High Force, the largest waterfall in England. Only 6 miles away is Raby Castle with its large deer park and gardens. Raby Castle is probably one of the best examples of its kind in the country. There are several reservoirs in the area; the furthest away is Cow Green about 12 miles. Most have day fishing permit subject to having a fishing licence. Way marked walks are in abundance all over the area with several quaint old-fashioned public houses offering good quality food conveniently situated after a thirsty stroll. For those wanting a longer journey the Lake District is only 1 hours drive away. For those who like a touch of retail therapy the Metro Centre, Europe's largest retail complex is only 50 minutes drive away along the A1(M) motorway. | |
