General Description | |
This 17th century coaching inn which was mentioned in the Novel 'Northanger Abbey' by Jane Austen after she visited the house during her childhood, was built on the site of a 12th century priory (which was destroyed by Henry the VIII) to provide rest to travellers on the Bath-Gloucester route and was extended in the Georgian period to its present state. In more recent times it has undergone an extensive makeover to 'ensure that the property's unique character is complimented by the conveniance and reliability of modern amenities'. On 3 Acres of land with amazing landscaped gardens, guests can enjoy a quiet drink or go al fresco and enjoy meals in the garden or simply take a long stroll around the Water Garden, perfectly situated to the east of the main house to catch the sun, the water garden is also illuminated at night to enhance the colours. The rooms offer a blend of country traditions with modern en-suite facilities, each with their own unique character and named after famous female writers. Rooms also boast a high standard of comfort and come with such features as Sky TV, Hot Beverage making facilities, broadband and Luxury BathShower facilities. Guests can dine in the 'Bodkin Restaurant'. A newly refurbished, air conditioned informal dining area. Whether it be from the Specialist menu, the 'Off the wall' menu or the A'la Carte menu which changes weekly, all food is created using the best local and organic ingredients and also caters for vegetarians and children. Diners can make use of the Bodkin restaurant or they can enjoy their meals out on the patio or sun terrace in the summer, either way, an enjoyable experience is guaranteed. The hotel also offers a fully stocked bar, with a range of guest ales, fine single malts and an extensive wine list which is also available to diners. Guests can also partake of a Bar Meal from the bar menu if they don't wish to go for a full meal in the restaurant. As with the Restaurant, guests can enjoy their favourite drinks in great company either in the Bar, with its roaring Log Fire which is great in the winter months or they can retire to the sun deck and relax, perfect for those lazy summers. | |
