Looking for a quiet Vendee accommodation where you can spend a relaxing holiday in the Western Loire? You’ve found it: Les Prateaux is a wonderful Noirmoutier hotel on the Ile de Noirmoutier, an island off France’s Atlantic Coast, accessible via either the Noirmoutier Bridge (Pont de Noirmoutier) or the road called the Passage de Gois ou Goa. Les Prateaux is a traditional French holiday hotel in the Bois de la Chaize forested area. It is 100 metres/110 yards from the beach and has its own garden. As a guest, you can relax on the stone patio, or dine at the Les Prateaux Restaurant, which specializes in seafood, especially lobster. This hotel is part of the Relais du Silence hotels group and has received the Qualite Tourisme award of quality. The hotel is located along the eastern coast of the Ile de Noirmoutier, in the Bay of Biscay. It is approx. 2.1 km/1.3 miles from the town centre of Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile (French for Noirmoutier in the Island, usually shortened to just Noirmoutier). The town dates back to 674, when Saint Philibert of Jumieges arrived and founded a monastery. The 12th-century castle called the Chateau de Noirmoutier now houses the Noirmoutier Museum. There are numerous other historic buildings, several named for John Cornelius Jacobsen, who built the town’s dam in 1812, allowing the development of salt marshes and a channel to access the port. Today cyclists, pedestrians, and bird-watchers enjoy touring the marshes. Other Noirmoutier attractions include the marina at L'Herbaudiere and the Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile Sealand Aquarium. | |
