General Description | |
The Moulin de l'Abbaye sits in the heart of Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord. Nestled alongside the original mill-pond, this spot is one of the most delightful places in the Dordogne. The mill itself is wreathed in ivy, and looks out over the 16th century masterpiece that is the right-angled bridge, the Pont Coude, which links the abbey, founded by Charlemagne with the monastery garden as well as the medieval tower, the Renaissance pavilion and the abbey itself. This charming hotel is ideal for a relaxing stay, an excellent meal or both. The rooms and public areas are warm and inviting, the restaurant, with its shady riverside terrace, specialises in dishes featuring local produce, and the combination of the two makes for a quintessential flavour of France. Take some time to sit by the babbling River Dronne, watching the water wheel roll lazily around, the brilliant flash of a kingfisher's wing as it dives for fish, the mother duck shepherding her ducklings upstream. This is La Belle France! Business hours of reception: | |
