General Description | |
Perhaps the most touristic area of Madrid is that one that the Madrilenos call "Madrid of the Austrians". The nickname for this part of the centre of Madrid has an historical origin: is in the area where the dynasty of the Habsburgs (The Austrians) created a historic village that they chose as the capital of Spain. Buildings recall the Spanish imperial era, when the Habsburgs ruled an empire extended from beyond the Netherlands to America. So, the neighbourhood "Madrid of the Austrians" extends over Puerta del Sol, Palacio Real, the Arenal and Mayor Streets including La Latina, Plaza de Oriente and Plaza Mayor. This one is the very heart of the "Madrid of the Austrians" and is in the centre of the nightlife. Content provided courtesy of the property.
