Hvalpsund Faergekro has 28 large and nice rooms all of which have a view over the Limfjord and they are equipped with bath - toilet - TV and wireless Internet. The inn is a good starting point for excursions on foot or on bike in the lovely nature with beaches and meadows. Lakes and woods in West Himmerland and in Salling. You can visit the old thatched manor Hessel. Sail to the nature reserve Livoe and to the Limfjord island Fur or go for a walk in Skovbakkerne or along the fjord. Hvalpsund Golfklub is situated only 1.5 km from the inn and there is also the possibility of playing on several of the near-by golf courses. To this should be added special offers of weekend stays and mini holidays. The ferry service between Himmerland and Sundsoere in Salling has been there as long as anybody can remember. Originally the ferries were rowboats or barges and of course they only sailed when the weather was reasonably well. This meant that the travellers often had to wait fairly long for the ferry - in all kinds of weather. This was the reason why inns were built at the most important berths. Hvalpsund Faergekros history dates as far back as 1532and in 1669 the inn became royally licensed as a ferry inn. This meant that it was the innkeeper who ran both the inn and the ferry serviceand it continued right up to the 1870s. The ferries got larger and betterand in 1927 the first railway ferry was put into service on the route between Hvalpsund and Sundsoere in connection with the privately owned railway from Aalborg via Aars to Hvalpsund. The present innkeeper in Hvalpsund is the 5th generation in the inn. It was his great-great-grandfather who built the present inn in 1913 and the good inn traditions are still preserved. In the restaurant they serve original inn courses as well as a special gourmet menu and they also have a special summer menu - and with the site right down to the Limfjord the good food is garnished with the most magnificent view over the sea. |
