Unitas Hotel is located in the historical centre of Prague, the Old Town – a quarter of historical monuments, theatres, museums, restaurants, bars and clubs. If something could be described as the Montmartre of Prague, so its exactly what the Old Town is. The immediate proximity to the most important monuments like Charles Bridge – 200 meters, Old Town Square - 300 meters, Jewish Quarter – 350 meters, Lesser Town – 500 meters, Prague Castle - 1000 meters or Wenceslaus Square – 300 meters makes the Unitas Hotel ideal bases for their explorations along with cultural and culinary adventures and experiences. Everything here is reachable by foot, there is no need of using taxis and other means of public transportation.
The building of the Unitas Hotel has a long and agitated history. Built as a convent in 17th century by Jesuits, converted into a nunnery in 1856 it became a centre of all charitable activities executed by the Order of Grey Sisters who built a whole monasterial complex here including the Church of St. Bartolomew, a gem of baroque Prague. After the communist Coup d´Etat in 1948 the whole place was turned into the headquarters of feared Secret police with detention cells for those interrogated including Mr. Vaclav Havel, our first free president elected. After the Velvet revolution in 1989 the whole complex was returned to the nunnery in a miserable condition, money was badly needed to perform some basic repairs. So the idea of running a hospitality business generating cash for reconstructions seemed to be the best solution. In 1992 the first accommodation facility known as the Pension Unitas was opened here for students. After 15 years of flourishing business it was closed down for a major reconstruction of the building and in May 2008 a brand new facility was opened here – the 4 * Unitas Hotel.
Unitas Hotel has 22 rooms in total, all large suites equipped with all standards of 4* property – air-condition, internet access& wireless, minibar, electronic safe, satellite LSD TV, direct dial telephones, DVD player (the hotel provides a large and free collection of movies, even those shot in Prague), comfortable beds and spacious writing tables. All fabrics used here have the highest degree of fire-resistance.
The hotel has a cozy house-bar in the lobby, a library with DVD collection, free internet access point, luggage deposit room, elevator, safe parking place in the courtyard, billard room. The breakfast is a buffet & á la carte option with large variety of food selection and is included into the room price. In summer time there is a garden setting in the court yard with parasols what makes a nice start for a night stroll or morning coffee with international papers. The unique serenity of this place just in the heart of Prague accentuates its uncommon value for all who elect a rather en famille place before a hustle of big international chains.
Unitas Hotel is operated as a garni hotel product, there is no restaurant here. But we are in the middle of restaurant quarter, in the street itself there is 4 restaurants and 2 bars. We recommend restaurant Stoleti – a Czech / Italian cuisine run by a real Czech prince of Kinsky or a vegetarian place Ligh Head. Both max. 50 meters from the hotel. |
