Paraty is an old historical town that was colonised by the Portuguese in 1667, an area originally populated by the Guianas Indians. The majority of Paraty´s original architecure has been preserved so that whitewashed houses, buildings and, most notably, the churches date back over 250 years. The streets are reknowned for their irregular cobblestones and all this sits on the beautiful Bay of Ilha Grande.
