Book a room at Priorij Corsendonk Hotel for a memorable stay when you visit Flanders. This Oud-Turnhout hotel is housed in a historic abbey that has been rebuilt and renovated several times. Priorij Corsendonk (Dutch for Priory of Corsendonk) dates back to 1398 and served as a monastery for close to 400 years before being converted into a private estate for successful industrial families. Starting in 1975, the Flemish government began renovating the buildings for use as a conference centre. The original north wing of the monastery, the chapter house, the communal dining areas (refectories), and the cellar all have been restored to their original appearance. Guest rooms are located in several annex buildings: the Guesthouse, the Laymen’s House, and two barns. A 15 minute drive from the Turnhout city centre, Priorij Corsendonk has a tranquil location in a verdant park surrounded by centuries-old trees and pastures. Many guests enjoy following the Corsendonkroute walking path through the monastery grounds. Approx. 4.5 km/2.8 miles to the north, just on the other side of the European route E 34, is the upscale residential area called Zwaneven, where many Dutch people have settled. The Liereman area of forests and heathland, north of Zwaneven, is one of the largest nature reserves in Flanders. Other Turnhout attractions within 10 km/6.2 miles of Priorij Corsendonk include a 13th century beguinage (begijnhof); the 12th century Turnhout kasteel, a castle of the Dukes of Brabant; and the National Museum of the Playing Card (Nationaal Museum van de speelkaart). | |
