Vichy Springs Resort, a two-hour drive on Highway US 101 north of San Francisco, is California's oldest continuously operating hot springs resort. Opened between 1852 and 1854 the original buildings have been completely renovated and individually decorated. Three of the buildings (circa 1852-1854) at Vichy Springs Resort are the oldest standing structures in Mendocino County. Bed and Breakfast is offered in 18 rooms and 8 self-contained cottages (2 are disabled accessible). A few feet from the accommodations await the 10 bathing tubs built in 1860 and used by the rich and famous in California's history including Jack and Charmaigne London, Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt and his daughter Alice, Ulysses Grant and pugilists Jim Corbett and John L. Sullivan. Vichy features the only naturally sparkling 90-degree Vichy mineral baths in North America. Also included are the communal hot soaking pool and Olympic size swimming pool, which will gently caress away your cares and stress. The baths are backdropped by a five million-year old travertine/onyx grotto formed around the spring. Vichy has 700 acres for your walking and hiking pleasure. Picnicking and mountain biking are common on the grounds. Vichy Springs offers Swedish massage, reflexology and herbal facials. Close by are the largest trees in the world (redwoods), lakes and rivers, 35 wineries, 2 brandy distilleries, 3 museums, Ukiah and its restaurants and 2 microbreweries. A quiet healing environment is what a stay at a mineral springs resort should be.
