General Description | |
The Dunhill opened in 1929 and is Charlotte's only member of Historic Hotels of America and one of its first luxury hotels. Its singular architecture and powering presence added immeasurably to Charlotte's skyline upon its completion. Fitting of the times, the hotel was fashionably elegant with a lavishly appointed lobby and grand ballroom. The hotel thrived even through the Great Depression as a favorite choice of prominent business merchants who traveled extensively by rail. Today, the Dunhill Hotel is one of Charlotte's few remaining landmarks of that distinctive period. The Dunhill is located in downtown Charlotte's financial district, approximately six miles from the Douglas International Airport, two miles from Mint Museum of Art, and four miles from Charlotte Coliseum. | |
