The first mentions of the Ozernoy lane pertain to the end of the XVIII century. At that time nearby there was a manor of a favorite of empress Elizabeth — Ivan Ivanovich Shuvalov. Ozernoy lane received its name from the artificial ponds located nearby and feeding the fountains of the Summer Garden. Starting from first half of the XIX century this part of the city became the place of residence of the creative elite of Saint-Petersburg — Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka, the ancestor of Russian classical music, resided here, as well as many other art workers. Later Kirill Lavrov, the legendary theater and film actor, art director of the Bolshoi Drama Theater, lived and was baptized here.
From the windows of the hotel one can see the Leushinskiy town church — the convent whose temple’s foundation was laid in 1887, and which until now has preserved its initial look and is active.
In 1924 in the former house of merchant Burtsev the “children's centre” opened — one of the first kindergartens of Russia. Starting from 1932, a wonderful botanical garden had been here. Since early spring and until late summer flowers would blossom here. There had been 120 grades of dahlias alone. People from Japanese embassy would come for Japanese cherry saplings.
