General Description | |
The West Coast of the Southern Alps (Te Tai o Poutini) has been a destination for peoples travelling the seaways of the world since the first navigators guided their waka (vessels) to these shores. Awatuna was known in those times as a safe anchorage and calm landing place after those long sea voyages from out of the Pacific Ocean. The traditional practice of providing for the needs and rest of travellers is carried on today by your hosts, Pauline, HC+mi and their family at Awatuna Homestead. Awatuna Homestead, set in a valley that stretches from the foothills of the Southern Alps to the Tasman Sea, is an elegant coastal retreat between Greymouth and Hokitika. It offers peace and privacy amidst a spectacular setting of unspoiled native bush and lush gardens. Within this environment it's easy to relax and recharge... Built in 1996 on the same site as their former home, the double storey timber Homestead reflects many features of that beautiful building. The architectural design preserves the classic country colonial lines of dormer windows. The three guest rooms all have their own distinctive character, as well as their own unique views. All rooms have central heating and ensuites. The Goldsborough Room has a super king bed or twin beds and spa bath. There is also a self contained, centrally heated apartment within the Homestead complex, with its own private access. It features a queen room, a twin room with king single and single bed, one private bathroom, lounge with comfortable double sofa bed, self-catering kitchen and exclusive exterior deck with sea views. Apartment guests are offered the same activities as guests in the Homestead | |
