Choose the Paulsens Hotell when you travel to the Vest-Agder region of South Norway. This historic Lyngdal hotel offers a sample of life in simpler times, surrounded by a lovely natural environment with three majors fjords: Lyngdalsfjorden, Grønfjorden, and Lehnesfjorden. Originally established in 1884, the Paulsens Hotell re-opened in April 2011 to continue providing hospitality to those visiting the charming coastal town of Lyngdal. Its inviting restaurant serves traditional Danish and Norwegian meals. A breakfast buffet featuring freshly ground coffee, fresh-squeezed fruit juice, and homemade bread is included in the room rates. Free parking is available 50 metres/55 yards from the hotel. The Paulsens Hotell is located near the centre of town, on the southern banks of the Lyngdalselva, the Lyngdal River. Among the local landmarks are a regional museum called the Klokkergarden bygdetun (Circle Museum) and the Lyngdal Church, the second-largest wooden church in Norway, with 7 burial mounds nearby that date back at least to the Middle Ages. A 5 minute drive to the west takes you to the beach at Kvavik, while a 10 mile drive to the south brings you to Rosfjord’s beach and the Sørlandsbadet water park and fitness centre. Nearby is a 330 hectare/819 acre protected natural area called the Nedre Lyngdalselva dyrefredningsomrade (Lower Lyngdal River Animal Conservation Area). The Paulsens Hotell is approx. 73.5 km/45.7 miles from the city of Kristiansand on European Route E39. | |
