A chimney in the Mayor's Parlour conceals a priest's hole, while axe marks reputedly made by Cromwell's soldiers can be seen on the old oak door leading to a secret garden. Please note that the hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment in some areas. There are many interesting days out to be had in this charming town, with many quaint alleyways, mostly originating from the 17th century. Guided walks can be had around the Civil War Battle Trail, as Tewkesbury was the setting for the last important Battle of the Roses. Alternatively, the magnificent Norman Abbey, idyllically situated in delightful grounds with rolling fields beyond, is well worth a visit. Tewkesbury is situated only 14.5 km (9 miles) from the delightful town of Cheltenham with its elegant shopping arcades and gracious terrace houses.
