Although the core buildings date back from the early 1500's , the exact date is uncertain - the first record of the Roebuck is as a moderately large alehouse in 1691. The restaurant is named after the great Dick Turpin who was probably the most famous highwayman of the time. There is an evidence to suggest that Dick Turpin hid here in 1738, using his wife's maiden name Palmer, prior to his final flight to Yorkshire. The hotel has preserved the old look of the restaurant with the same old timbers and antique plates. A multitude of traditional dishes are served here.
