General Description

Parkhead Station House Stanhope (Durham) Stanhope MoorParkhead is the former station master's house which has been sympathetically restored by owners Terry and Lorraine Turnbull to provide BB Tea Rooms with added attractions such as a Photographic/Art Gallery, Artwork ,railway memorabilia (kindly donated to Parkhead from numerous customers/visitors) also artefacts to test your knowledge. Parkhead Station once described as 'an extraordinary and disagreeable Dales relic' in 1998 before restoration but present day descriptions by visitors include terms as 'an oasis of the moor', 'haven' and 'sanctuary' with many clients returning to Parkhead regularly. Standing approx.1500 feet above sea level in the Northern Pennines (designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) Parkhead Station marks the 100 mile point on the renowned C2C long distance cycle route on the traffic free section of the Waskerly Way and down hill to the coast! Parkhead is ideal base if you wish to take some time to visit the many other attractions Wear Valley have to offer: Killhope Lead Mines, Dales Centre, Stanhope Village and numerous long/short walking routes. Durham area: Beamish Open Air Museum, Tanfield Railway, Durham City and Newcastle City. Literature is available in our Tea Rooms and Bed Rooms; of course we would be more than happy to help you plan your outings with our local knowledge.
