 Built nearly 800 years ago to house the draughtsmen working on the nearby cathedral, the historic Best Western Red Lion hotel, with its world famous creeper-clad courtyard (a haven of peace in the city centre), has been in the ownership of the Maidment family for nearly 100 years and continues to welcome guests from near and far.
During recent times many modern facilities have been incorporated within the frame-work of the traditional style and ambience of the original building, which to this day houses the reception, Victoria Lounge, '1220' Bar and some of the delightful individually decorated bedrooms.
Situated in the centre of the South of England, Salisbury is the ideal place from which to visit many historic and interesting places, including Stonehenge, The New Forest, Wilton House, Salisbury Racecourse, Longleat, Stourheadand, of course, Salisbury itself. The city contains many medieval buildings, The Market Square and the beautiful Cathedral, surrounded by its magnificent close, within which are two museums, Mompesson House and many other attractive buildings.
The bedrooms are all en-suite, individually decorated and full of charm and character. With all the facilities which the discerning guest requires, such as comfortable beds, satellite television, radio, wireless internet access, direct dial telephone, hair dryer and a refreshment tray.
