Swiss Cottage is an ideal base for visiting the lovely coastal towns and villages nearby which include Aldeburgh and Thorpeness and Snape. The local area is dominated by heathland, marshland and woodland ideal for anyone keen on walking cycling and bird watching. Thorpeness features a large Meare where you can hire canoes, rowing boats or a small sail boat and meander around the meare, stopping off at the little islands which feature a Peter Pan theme, including Wendys' House and Captian Hooks castle. Aldeburgh features a wide shingle beach, where fisherman still draw up their colourfull boats and sell locally caught fresh fish, lobsters and crabs. There are several boutique shops and many cafes and restaurants to stop off for a bite to eat. Snape, nearby offers Snape Maltings where one can find shops, cafes and galleries. Snape Maltings is also the home of the Famous concert hall developed by Benjamin Britten as a venue for classical music concerts. The Aldeburgh food festival is also held in the grounds of Snape Maltings every September featuring foods, stalls and displays by local producers and food enthusiasts.
