In the heart of bohemian Saint Germain lies La Villa Saint-Germain, a contemporary take on the hotel. The stark lobby is lightened by large, modern flower displays, sleek upholstered chairs and fabric wall hangings. The bar serves over 20 kinds of whisky. Breakfast is served until noon in the basement, down a sweeping staircase, and adjacent to the stylish meeting room.
Luxuriously minimal, the 31 well-proportioned rooms have wide beds with wooden framed leather headboards, comfortable sofas or chairs, contemporary desks and tables, antiquey prints and modern lamps. Colours are chic and simple – dark (chocolate and plum with some dark red) or beige and grey – and variety comes in the form of texture, from walls, to bedclothes, to furniture. The room numbers are projected in light onto the floor in front of each door. The bathrooms are ultramodern – red-brown or grey marble, chrome, mirrors, frosted glass shelves and sliding doors – but compact, and the short baths do not have a shower screen or a high hook for the shower head. The staff are welcoming at La Villa Saint-Germain – a good choice for aficionados of this elegant style. |
