Come to the El Gecko Hotel for a taste of traditional Spanish life in a picturesque mountain village. An intimate Cortes de la Frontera hotel, it has a lovely, tranquil location by the Guadiaro River in the mountains of Andalusia. The El Gecko Hotel was originally constructed approximately 200 years ago as a traveler’s inn, where guests would arrive by donkey and tie up their animals on the riverbank. Today it is a charming, family-run boutique hotel with beamed ceilings, a terrace, a patio garden, and an outdoor swimming pool. The Riverside Bistro is locally renowned for its modern European dishes. Complimentary Wi-Fi internet access is available in the hotel’s public areas. The hotel is located in the area of Cortes de la Frontera called Canada del Real Tesoro. This lower half of the village is near the train station, for which reason it is sometimes called Estacion de Cortes de la Frontera (Cortes de la Frontera Station). Trains come only a few times during the day and never at night, however, so they do little to interrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the hotel. The other half of the village, 4.8 km/3.0 miles up the hillside, is one of the classic pueblos blancos (white villages) of Andalusia. The hotel is approx. 40 km/24.9 miles from the scenic village of Ronda and 56 km/34.8 miles from the resort town of Estepona on the Costa del Sol. | |
