Make La Sitja part of your travels in southeastern Spain. You’ll love your time at this beautiful Valencia guest house in the historically Moorish village of Benissoda, a 70 minute drive from Valencia and a 90 minute drive from Alicante. Rated a 3 star guest house, La Sitja is an intimate accommodation where tradition and contemporary design blend together seamlessly. Traditional cuisine is served in its pleasant restaurant, while drinks are available in the cosy bar with fireplace. Glass cases in the reception area display pottery unearthed during the construction of the guest house. From the terrace you can enjoy stunning views of the orchard and the villages of Benissoda and Agullent. La Sitja is located in the rural region called Vall d'Albaida, the Valley of the Albaida River (in Spanish Valle de Albaida). Historically, the area was mainly populated by Spanish Moors and then by their descendants, called moriscos, until 1610, when they were forced to either leave the country or be forcibly baptized as Christians; the influence of the Moorish culture and architecture can still be widely seen, especially in the neighbouring town of Albaida. Among the interesting local attractions are the Albaida International Puppet Museum (Museu Internacional de Titelles d'Albaida, or MITA) in the Albaida Palace, the medieval towns of Ontinyent and Bocairent, and the Castle of Xativa. For outdoor recreation, head to the nearby Sierra de Mariola Nature Reserve. | |
