Looking for an Austrian inn where you and your family can relax while experiencing the natural beauty of the Salzkammergut region? Consider the Seegashof Gamsjaga, a kid-friendly St. Gilgen accommodation on the western edge of the Wolfgangsee. The Seegashof Gamsjaga is a traditional inn that was built in 1865 and has been run by the Weber family for more than 100 years. Today it’s particularly well known for its restaurant, which specializes in fish dishes and homemade strudel, and in summer offers outdoor dining on a terrace overlooking the lake. The restaurant has a children’s menu, and on special occasions kids are invited into the kitchen to help prepare their own meals. Outside are gardens under old chestnut trees and a children’s play area. This 3 star inn is located in the Abersee area on the western shores of the Wolfgangsee, approx. 4.5 km/2.8 miles to the southeast of St. Gilgen (called Sankt Gilgen in German). The waters of Lake Wolfgang (the Wolfgangsee) are exceptionally clean and clear, making it a great place for swimming and scuba diving; some excellent dive sites are near the inn. Other popular watersports on the lake include sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, and para-sailing. The inn offers bicycle rental and is located on the Gamsjaga Salzkammergut Cycle Path. On the other side of the lake, numerous hiking trails lead up the Schafberg (Sheep Mountain), considered one of the most beautiful mountains in Austria. | |
